Weightlifting Day Course Coming to you!

I believe I have one of the best coaches in the world, he has had many different experiences throughout his life and has brushed off on me. A year ago, I was still on route to finish my national service and going back to school for uni. But here I stand today corrected, I’m currently progressing into being a coach myself, I think the best trait that I have taken from him would be that I am able to spot mistakes quickly and being able to correct them or relay them in a simple matter.

The point, we’re wanting to spread the knowledge of weightlifting out there, may it be local or overseas. We’re looking into pushing out to other countries out there, gather a few people, we’ll fly down and correct your technique, this is probably my ultimate goal as an athlete/coach, to be able to spread my knowledge to everyone. Not only the athletes or the competitors, but also just the everyday commoners who add oly lifts to their basic workouts. Technique is what is needed when completing oly lifts and not only that you must remember it reduces injuries.

“You must be able to answer all questions thrown at you, that’s how you know you’re flawless in technique” -Coach Wu

Back to training

Okay, so since I cant sleep at 3am in the morning. I think ill just do a short blog till i decide Im sleepy. I will document my progressions as I go along till competition time in June. Commonwealth Champs will be the one, 9th June (yeah, mark your calendars, jk). Just got confirmed we will be flying to Samoa for the comp last week so this week its back to training. I will try update with videos and stuff, just to see how Im going and probs help with me watching my technique.

Okay, enough with the boring intro, this week coach (coach wu) has been bringing me back to basics as he says my technique has been forgotten or translated “i am no longer familiar with my technique”, so its all back to technique and power for me as planned for the next 3 weeks. Power snatches on Monday were not too bad for a recovery state, 90kgs x 3 for 12 sets? Then we moved on to snatch pulls with blocks underneath, so basically imagine that you’re standing on 5 inch blocks, and the bar is nearly touching your toes and you do snatch pulls, got to about 150×4 reps 6 sets, pretty happy about that because this used to be my least favourite exercise as i got a weak back and cant control it back down, used to cringe at 130 for 3. Following on the week, power cleans are kept at a minimal 130×2-3 for 6 sets, push presses 120×3 for 6 sets, coach’s analogy is to train my body’s mechanics back up to its original state, thats why the sets are higher than usual, my squats though have decreased to a very disapointing under 200’s. I ended up doing 170×6 reps x6 sets. Then friday was just snatches and cleans. Found out that I was leaning back on my first pull before I even left the ground after I started videoing myself, which made my remaining sets less painful. 100×3 for 8 sets, then cleans 125kg for doubles, think i did about 6 sets. progression so far is good, im not sure what the purpose of not letting me train with heavier weights is, but im sure coach has his reasons and I shall just be the athlete that trains. Lets see where this leads me. Will post previous results, meaning before I took this long asssssssss break, which was just before SEA Games after the training stint in China.

This experience is a new one with me and definately a very eye opening for me as a coach as well, learning how an athlete comes back from a long break and finding how everything is ridiculously heavy and how I managed to actually lift that weight in the past?

Snatch: 131kg (126 comp)
C&J: 163kg (comp)
Back Squat: 250kg
front:  215kg
Snatch Balance: 165kg (actually did that during my break with no training, competed with coach, adrenaline i think, he got 170)
Power Cleans: 150kg
Push Press: 140kg
Power Clean Push press: 140kg
Snatch Pull: 200kg
Clean Pull: 220kg
Dips from Rack 245kg

Goals for June ( I think this is probably the most important), I mean I would like to set new pb’s at this new comp, however, after having a chat with coach and my time constraints with myself coaching others outside, my realistic goals are probably looking at just getting back to my recovered status, snatch 130 and c&j 160, giving me a 290 total. Oh yeah, this will be my last comp as a junior lifter, yes I am turing 21 this august, so I wont be a junior anymore, sobs.. But yupp, i think thats me for today. i will start updating this more frequently now that I think people actually read. Uhm, if you guys would like any questions answered or explained or any training methodologies explained, please feel free to ask me, or just leave me a message on facebook. Ill get back to you asap.

Yeah! Samoaaaaaaaaa here I come. 🙂
